We’re printing an anthology of work by local poets

Opening date for submissions: July 22, 2021

Deadline: November 5, 2021

Fee: $0

The prize: The winning authors will receive publication in the inaugural Free Verse Charleston poetry anthology book, and one free copy of the publication.

Specifications: We’re not looking for any specific poetic form or subject matter. We’re not concerned with limiting word count. Submissions should only be sent as a Word or Pages document. Please do not send a photo or a PDF.

Submission: Poets may submit up to 5 poems. Sending multiple works in a single submission is encouraged.  If you are sending multiple pieces, please send them as a single submission. Poets who send in more than 5 poems will be ineligible.

The judges: Derek Berry, Chelsea Grinstead, Marjory Wentworth, Asiah Mae, and Marcus Amaker

Publication date: March 2022.

Eligibility: We strongly encourage writers of color. The submission is open to all poets (of any age, ethnicity, gender, or sexual orientation) in the Charleston area for a previously unpublished book of poetry. Only poets who live in the Lowcountry (Berkeley, Charleston, and Dorchester counties) are eligible to submit a manuscript.
